Buttons and pauses
Four kinds of buttons, colours, delays between messages and the "typing" indicator
Updated October 17, 2026
A button under a message is the action you offer. A pause before the next message is the rhythm it's read in. Both are set in words, not settings.
Four kinds of buttons
| Button | What happens on tap |
|---|---|
| Go to | The chain moves to another node — that's how yes/no dialogues, menus and "back" are built |
| Link | An external address opens: a site, a channel, a document |
| Mini App | A specific page of your site opens inside Telegram |
| Payment | The payment page of the chosen offer opens |
A payment button knows its offer and leads to a platform invoice. What happens after payment is decided not by the button but by the offer lifecycle node — see "Waits and payment".
Button colour
Telegram can colour buttons, and the platform uses it:
- blue — the main action: "Buy", "Open", "Continue";
- green — agreement: "Confirm", "Done";
- red — cancel or refuse: "Cancel", "Delete";
- no colour — navigation: "Back", "Menu".
Pauses between messages
Without pauses three messages in a row arrive like machine-gun fire — and read like bot spam. A pause is set on the transition: "after this message — two seconds, and show typing…".
How it's set.
- In seconds — from half a second to five minutes.
- "Natural" — the platform computes the pause from the previous message's length so the person can finish reading. The best default.
- With an indicator: "typing…", "sending a photo…", "sending a document…" — or silently.
Where it's a must. In stories and onboardings: one and a half to two seconds with "typing…" between steps. After a button tap: a second of "typing…" gives the feeling the bot thought about it.
